ABSTRACT

Chronic kidney disease(CKD) has become a global public health problem, deterioration of the disease to end-stage renal disease(ESRD) will bring heavy burdens to individuals, families and society. The essence of CKD is occurrence and development of renal fibrosis led by continuous stimulation of chronic inflammation. Galectin-3(Gal-3) is a multifunctional protein, which can not only regulate the activation of macrophages in inflammatory response, produce cytokines such as transforming growth factor(TGF)-β, promote the occurrence of renal fibrosis, but also regulate the expression of collagen in the process of tissue remodeling, promote renal fibrosis, and play an irreplaceable role in inflammation and fibrosis. Both modified citrus fructose(MCP) and GCS-100 are Gal-3 inhibitors, which can alleviate renal injury to a certain extent and are potential targets for anti-renal fibrosis therapy. However, Gal-3 has been shown to have a protective effect on the kidney. In the early stage of chronic renal injury, the anti-apoptosis effect of Gal-3 can protect glomeruli and tubules from chronic injury. The present paper mainly reviews the role of Gal 3 in renal fibrosis.

ABSTRACT

@#【Objective】To establish a reliable and reproducible mouse model of cisplatin induced inner ear hair cells loss and to make possible for further study of mechanisms of cisplatin-induced ototoxicity in mice from the molecular and genetic aspects. 【Methods】Twenty healthy mice were evenly divided into two groups in random. The mice in group A received a single dose of furosemide(200 mg/kg,intraperitoneal)followed by a single dose of cisplatin(1.0 mg/kg,intraperitoneal)1 h later,and the mice in group B received a single dose of furosemide(200 mg/kg,intraperitoneal)followed by a single dose of cisplatin(0.5 mg/kg,intraperitoneal)1 h later. Auditory brainstem response(ABR)and distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) were tested in both groups 10 d post the cisplatin-furosemide treatment and bilateral cochlea were taken out and fixed,one side cochlea were used for the surface preparation of total cochlear basal membrane and stained to count the number of cochlear hair cells from apex to base,the other was embedded with EPON 812 gel and then cut into half thin slices. Six mice were used as control group. 【Results】In both groups,the average ABR threshold of mice at each frequency were elevated,while the average DPOAE values were decreased. The average ABR threshold in group A increased significantly and the amplitude of each frequency decreased a lot,and DPOAE in high frequencies vanished;In group B,there was a minor elevation of ABR threshold with a slightly lower amplitude in higher- frequencies(16,20,32 kHz)but no amplitude change in lower frequencies(4,8,12 kHz)both in ABR and DPOAE. The surface preparation of Cochlear results in group A showed that nearly all the outer hair cells in the base had been destroyed,and most were destroyed in the apex;In group B,only the majority of cochlear outer hair cells at the base missed. There was no decrease of the numbers of the inner hair cells in both groups. Semi-thin cross-sections results also showed that the stria vascularis and spiral ganglion cells were close to normal in both groups. 【Conclusion】Co- administration of single dose of 1.0 mg/kg cisplatin with a single dose of 200 mg/kg furosemide may induce significant loss of cochlear outer hair cells in mice.

ABSTRACT

[Objective] To explore the relationship between laterality of auditory brainstem response and speech comprehension in children with autism spectrum disorders preliminarily.[Method] Review hearing diagnosis data in clinical audiology center from September 2013 to August 2015.We compare auditory brainstem responses in children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD group) and with other disorders (control group),and we further divide children with autism spectrum disorders into two groups (high ability group and low ability group) in terms of their speech comprehension and compare their auditory brainstem responses.[Result] The latencies of waves Ⅲ and Ⅴ,and interpeak latencies Ⅰ to Ⅲ and Ⅰ to Ⅴ of the ASD were significantly prolonged than the control group.And the laterality of waves Ⅲ and Ⅴ,and interpeak latencies Ⅰ to Ⅲ and Ⅰ to Ⅴ present in the ASD group,but not in the control group.Meanwhile,the laterality of waves Ⅲ and Ⅴ,and interpeak latencies Ⅰ to Ⅲ and Ⅰ to Ⅴ present in the high ability group,but not in the low ability group.[Conclusion] Laterality was not a common phenomenon in auditory brainstem response,and it may be associated with the development of speech comprehension in children with autism spectrum disorders.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze the etiology of repeatedly attacks of intractable vertigo and some types of sensorineural deafness whose clinical manifestation were not in conformity with the known spectrum diseases,and explore the screening method to prevent missed diagnosis or misdiagnosis, then provide references for clinical diagnosis and treatment for rare etiology. Method:The authors retrospectively analyzed the clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis from 4 cases of vertigo sufferers and 2 cases of hearing impairment sufferers whose serological tests were positive for syphilis. All these 6 cases were treated with large doses of penicillin aqueous solutions (24 million U/d), multi-times intravenous infusion, the course of the treatment was 14 d. Result:The clinical manifestations of these 6 patients were lack of characteristic, as well as the results of hearing and vestibular function, imaging diagnosis. Positive syphilis detection of serology and cerebrospinal fluid tests were the main diagnostic basis. After anti-syphilis treatment, 5 cases got satisfied clinical symptoms improvement, 1 case suffered from low-tone sensorineural hearing loss, whose hearing fluctuated recurrently. Conclusion:Syphilis infection may damage the Ⅷ cranial nerve and then lead to vertigo and hearing loss, through chronic syphilitic osteitis of temporal bone, atrophy of organ of corti, osteolytic lesion surrounding the endolymphatic duct, and neurosyphilis. For patients presented with intractable vertigo, and those whose clinical manifestations are not in conformity with the known diseases of unilateral ear or bilateral ears rapidly progressive deafness, syphilis serology screening and validation tests are recommended in case of missed diagnosis or misdiagnosis.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the hearing change when chronic tinnitus acute aggravated and the affect of prognosis due to hearing change.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The pure tone threshold and acoustic immittance were used for every case in the acute aggravation of chronic tinnitus (AACT) group, and for some of AACT group members the auditory brainstem response (ABR), distort-product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE), electrocochleogram (EcochG), glycerin test and MRI were used at the same time for further diagnosis. For the chronic tinnitus, the patients accepted the intervention of tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT) both for the AACT group and the control group. As for the recent hearing loss appeared in the AACT group members, the patients were treated the cases as the sudden deafness, and then the hearing characteristic of the AACT group was analyzed and the effect of the chronic tinnitus both for the AACT group and control group after the TRT for 3, 6, 9 and 12 months was evaluated.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Three kinds of hearing changes appeared when chronic tinnitus acute aggravated. Based on the dated high frequencies hearing loss ranged 4-8 kHz, recent hearing loss appeared in 1-2 middle frequencies near the impaired high frequencies; Based on the dated single middle frequency hearing loss, another middle frequency hearing impaired near the dated hearing loss frequency, the sawtooth-like audiogram changed to groove-like audiogram; Hearing fluctuation in low frequency area, hearing threshold increased 10-30 dB in 125-1000 Hz but kept unchanged in the high frequency area. The recent local frequency hearing loss healed after the vasodilator and neurotrophic drugs therapy, but the dated hearing loss can't rehabilitate. Along with the rehabilitation of recent local hearing loss, 25 of 32 cases chronic tinnitus victims get to habituation; this finding showed that the experience of tinnitus aggravation and relief accelerated the habituation. Until the 12 months after the TRT, the curative effect difference between AACT group and control group showed statistical significance.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>When the chronic tinnitus acute aggravated, 3 kinds of local area hearing impaired. Timely diagnosis and effective treatment had brought not only hearing rehabilitation but also promotion to habituation of chronic tinnitus.</p>
